FAQ's Baby / Toddler / Cake Smash - Session

Milestone photography in the Niagara Region that beautifully captures your baby’s growth, personality, and every sweet stage in a simple and timeless style.
Here are some frequently asked questions to help you plan for your baby, toddler or cake smash session:

When you’re ready to book, simply reach out to me so we can find the perfect date for your session. Once we’ve confirmed your spot, a small deposit will be required to officially secure your booking. The remaining balance is due on the day of your session.

I like to keep the process simple and personal – Just a friendly chat to make sure everything feels right and that your session fits beautifully into your schedule.

Your baby’s first year is a whirlwind of change — every few months, they seem like a completely new little person. These moments pass so quickly, and each stage has its own kind of magic that’s worth remembering.

The first few weeks are filled with softness and stillness — those tiny fingers and sleepy stretches that disappear far too soon.
At 3 to 5 months, they begin to lift their heads, discovering the world from a new angle and flashing those first real smiles.
By 6 to 8 months, they’re sitting on their own, full of curiosity and expression — it’s one of the sweetest ages to capture.
Around 9 to 11 months, they’re on the move, crawling, exploring, and showing off their growing independence.
And by their first birthday, a cake smash or milestone session celebrates just how much they’ve grown in one short year.

After that first trip around the sun, there’s no perfect time for photos — because every age is worth remembering. Each stage tells a little piece of their story, and I love helping families hold on to those moments before they become memories.

Every baby is unique, and that’s what makes each session so special. Some little ones drift off to sleep easily, while others need a bit more time, a few extra cuddles, or another feeding break to feel settled. Sometimes a baby might be a little uncomfortable from wind or colic — and that’s completely okay.

With years of experience and a gentle approach, I simply follow your baby’s lead. Sessions are always relaxed and flexible, so we can move at their pace and make sure they’re comfortable every step of the way.

Toddlers are wonderfully curious and full of personality — and sometimes that means they have their own ideas about how a session should go. That’s completely normal and part of what makes photographing them so special. Over the years, I’ve learned that patience, play, and gentle guidance are the best ways to bring out their true smiles and little quirks.

To help the session go smoothly, it’s best if your toddler arrives well-fed and rested. Bringing along a favorite toy, snack, or comfort item can also make a big difference in helping them feel happy and secure.

Please know that I don’t offer reshoots if your little one isn’t in the mood that day, but that’s rarely a problem — we always find a way to make it work. With a relaxed approach and a bit of playfulness, we’ll capture those beautiful, real moments that reflect your child just as they are.

I love photographing outdoors whenever the season and weather allow. There’s something truly beautiful about using nature as a backdrop — soft light, gentle colors, and the freedom it gives for little ones (and grown-ups) to simply be themselves.

Outdoor sessions are wonderful for capturing maternity, babies, toddlers, and small families. Whether it’s a quiet moment between expecting parents, a baby snuggled in your arms, or a toddler running through the grass — the setting adds an authentic, timeless feel to your photos. It’s less about posing and more about connection, play, and those in-between moments that tell your family’s story.

Of course, weather can be unpredictable, especially with little ones involved. I always keep an eye on the forecast and will reach out if we need to adjust the time, day, or location. My goal is to make sure your session feels relaxed, enjoyable, and perfectly suited to your family — no matter where we meet.

A lot of sweet mess is guaranteed! Please keep in mind that I don’t supply any food due to allergy concerns, so you’ll need to bring the smash cake. A 2–3 layer cake around 6 inches works perfectly. I recommend vanilla — it’s simple, pretty, and won’t stain.

Try to book your cake smash session 4–6 weeks before your little one’s birthday so you’ll have the photos ready on time. Before the session, I’ll send you a helpful guide with tips and tricks to make the celebration fun, stress-free, and full of smiles!
